January

Smoking Cessation Class (8 sessions) Jan. 11 - Feb 22

Are you ready to quit smoking? The American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking clinic is an 8 week session which gives you the support and tools to accomplish your goal. *Materials fees for this class are $20.00 for the participant booklet. Payment is required at the time of registration.

COLORs - January 12

Everyone has a distinct temperament spectrum comprised of four colors: Blue, Gold, Orange and Green. Learn to identify a person's Real Colors(R) and you'll gain insight into the things that are most important to them, discover the secret of what motivates them, and much more. This course will help you discover personal strengths, learn to recognize the strengths of others, learn how to build instant rapport with people and learn the most effective methods of speaking to different people. * Materials fees for this class are $10.00. Payment is required at the time of registration.

February

Communication- February 9th

Effective communication is all about conveying your messages to other people clearly and unambiguously. It's also about receiving information that others are sending to you, with as little distortion as possible. Doing this involves effort from both the sender of the message and the receiver. This class will explore your communication style, how others communicate and activities to practice what you've learned.

March

Coaching-  March 9

Whenever we need to redirect, change or reinforce a behavior in an employee, co-worker... or family member, we must assume the role of a coach.  In this course, we'll introduce a method of determining why we're receiving certain behaviors based upon what we're rewarding.  We'll also explore how to prepare for the coaching session and explain the critical discussion steps necessary for the interaction to be successful.

April

Advanced COLORs- April 13th

Take the information that you learned in Real COLORS to the next level. This workshop will explore the four temperaments in more depth. Why do Greens do what they do? Why are Oranges like that? What makes a Blue a Blue? Why is this so important to a Gold? Learn what makes your team tick. PREREQUISITE: Real COLORs.

Peer to Supervisor - May 11

You've been promoted, now what? Employees are promoted because of their outstanding service and ability, but they are not always given the tools they need to succeed. This basic supervisor class will present relevant situations, and discuss effective ways to handle them. This training will address how to move from being a friend to a boss, having effective communications with your staff and the do's and don't of being the supervisor.

Dealing with Difficult People - June 8th  (9 a.m. - Noon)

It seems difficult people are in every workplace, on every team and in many of our day-to-day situations. If only we could learn effective approaches to increase our own success, and minimize our experiences with difficult people! This will give tips and tools for dealing with the difficult.

Drug Free Workplace- June 17  (See note below for times)

People taking this class for the first time should attend the entire session. Those taking the class as a refresher should attend from 10-11:15 a.m.

Whether we believe it or not, substance abuse affects every organization. An average of 15-17% of employees in the workplace are substance abusers with even more employees being impacted by the substance abuse of a friend or family member. Supervisors may often suspect substance abuse problems, but are unsure about their responsibility. This class will cover identifying substance abuse in the workplace, and how to deal with this sensitive subject.

July

Delegation- July 13  (9 a.m. - Noon)

It's impossible to do everything as a supervisor. Knowing how and when to delegate is a skill that supervisors and managers can use to lighten their work load, empower employees and get more done. This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of delegation.

August

Generational Differences- August 10  (9 a.m. - Noon)

For the first time in history, there are four generations in the workforce. Meeting on common ground will help us communicate, build stronger teams, and have better productivity. This workshop will define the 4 generations and provide insights and strategies that will promote respect among the generations and strengthen collaboration.

It will help everyone understand each generation's unique characteristics and how to handle misunderstandings that impact productivity.

September

Creating a Customer Experience - September 14  (9 a.m. - Noon)

We all have customers - and we worked extremely hard to get every one of them by providing excellent service.  But how do we maintain that culture of service excellence?  How do we help our employees remember "the customer comes first"?  How do we help our internal customers?  In this training, we'll explore the basic elements of customer service and the steps that can be taken to ensure that everyone strives to maintain service excellence.

October

Accountability- October 12  (9 a.m. - Noon)

Organizations will only be as successful as the results produced. Results are produced when departments and individuals step up to the plate and assume accountability. In this concept, we'll learn that only by "seeing it, owning it, solving it and doing it" concerning any situation - by taking ownership - can we direct our journey and become a more valuable asset to our organizations.

November

Effective Meetings- November 9  (9 a.m. - Noon)

Ineffective meetings take time and money. When should you NOT have a meeting? This class will look at the components of effective meetings, alternatives to meetings and provide tips and techniques to improve meetings. We will review group dynamics, task and techniques for dealing with different types of difficult group members.

December

Stress Management- December 14  (9 a.m. - Noon)

Feeling frazzled with all you have to do? Can't quite find the balance between work, family and self? Stress can be an amazing motivating factor in our lives or it can debilitate us. Come join this training session to learn how to manage daily expectations and discover healthy solutions for work and life.

of business, as well as other requested trainings.

All classes will be held at the Synchrony Services EAP office, 438 Southgate Avenue, Iowa City. Please call 351-9072 or 800-444-9014 to register. Class size is limited to 12. An additional class will be scheduled if there is a waiting list of more than 7 individuals. A reminder will be mailed the week prior to class. Classes are free to full service contractors. A fee is charged to those companies that are billed on a per case basis.
